Bang-On Fitted hat Program
Bang Your Head!
Created March 2008
Bang-On T Shirts was in need of a new series of hats and hat transfers to replace their dated, poor-selling trucker style hats they had been struggling with for years. It was decided early on in the project that fitted caps were the way to go, given their immense popularity, but in order to appeal to a wider audience and to give the series something no one else had at the time, fitted trucker style caps were also designed.
Custom tags were designed for each style; the Fresh Fit standard fitted cap, and the Big Rig trucker style cap. An icon was designed for each style, to give them each their own personal appeal, and to coincide with other Icon-tagged items in the Bang-On clothing catalogue. Detial ribbons for the inside stitching of the caps were also made, customized to each cap style. In addition to this, sizing tags on the inside brim of the cap, as well as gold foiled stickers were designed for each size available in both cap styles.
Hat colours were chosen based on popularity of previous trucker hats, as well as colours chosen for their vibrancy, with turquoise, red, stark white, and lots of neons.
In addition to the vast collection of caps, over 100 transfers were designed specifically for pressing on the front of caps, as well as some transfers made to be pressed on the underside of cap brims. Icons, patterns, typographic designs, rock buttons, found art, as well as mouths and eyes were all created, each one as unique as the person who wears it.
Finally, in order to advertise to stores and merchandisers, an 8-page booklet was designed. It's gritty, black and white photography allowed the full colour transfers and hats to appear vibrant and exciting, and it's stark, distressed typography gave the entire series an urban, youthful feeling. In addition to this, a website was designed to advertise to the general public.
I'm proud to say that the series took off immensely, and has been the company's greatest selling launch to date.
