Inhaus Volkswagen Parts
The Quality Volkswagen Alternative
Created September 2006
Quality German-made parts are important for the well being of a VW, whether it's a daily driver, a weekender, or a Trailer Queen. But sourcing or affording the highest quality parts can be a real hassle and can leave enthusiasts with empty pockets before the project is finished. That's where Inhaus comes in.
Designed to resemble packaging from the golden age of the automotive world, the packaging appeals to old world minded owners, as well as to young owners who appreciate the hey day of Volkswagens. Each package uses screen printed-look techniques, as well as classical typefaces and quality texture rich papers. The colours and images are treated with a scratched, weathered texture to give the impression that the products have stood the tests of time.
The main colour, Pantone 711 C, was chosen for it's resemblance to the Volkswagen colour of ceiling wax red. It is a very common colour for vintage Volkswagens, as is instantly recognizable, at least subconsciously, by volkswagen enthusiasts. In fact all of the colours used were based off of vintage Volkswagen colours and patterns.
Materials were chosen for their natural appearance and vintage appeal. Textured card was used to package the products, to give the boxes their own unique feeling and to impress upon the buyer that they were buying high quality and well made products. Smaller, accessory packages such as envelopes used manila paper to emulate stationery from years past, as well as to keep cost to a minimum.
Temporary Extra was used for the main captions and descriptions to emulate the classic style typography of all caps san serif. Fertigo Roman was chosen for the body copy and secondary descriptions for it's classical lines, ease of readability, and it's unique appearance. Both these typefaces were designed by independent foundries.
